| | Debut of VMware Horizon Cloud, VMware Horizon Apps and updates to VMware Horizon 7 dramatically lower the cost and complexity of delivering Windows applications, and improve user experience | | | In 2016, for the second consecutive year, VMware Horizon was recognized as a leader by IDC in the Virtual Client Computing Marketscape Report.i
This week, VMware builds on its leadership with new announcements around the VMware Horizon portfolio. Bringing new innovations and offerings to the market, the Horizon portfolio allows customers to address more use cases while driving down the cost and complexity of delivering and managing virtual applications and desktops.
Horizon 7
Horizon 7, VMware's premier platform for virtual desktops and applications, just got better with the launch of Horizon 7.1. With this new release, customers can now take advantage of Just-in-Time Management Platform (JMP) technologies (including Instant Clones for ultra-fast desktop provisioning, App Volumes for real-time app delivery, and User Environment Manager for contextual policy management) for published apps as well as virtual desktops.
With Horizon 7.1, VMware is also taking user experience to the next-level—with the introduction of a new Blast Extreme Adaptive Transport (BEAT) designed to optimize user experience across use cases where there is high packet loss, high latency and lower bandwidth. Out of the box—customers can expect to see 50% better bandwidth utilization over previous releases of Blast and faster trans and inter-continental file transfers with minimal packet loss over competing protocols.ii Finally, Horizon 7.1 is bringing Microsoft Skype for Business integration into VMware's platform to support feature-rich, secure collaboration across the enterprise.
Horizon Apps
Whether looking for an alternative to Citrix XenApp or simply need to deliver apps versus full virtual desktops to end users as part of a broader application delivery strategy, VMware now has a new stand-alone Horizon Apps offer that allows customers to move forward at a significantly lower cost than Citrix XenApp today.
Horizon Cloud
Horizon Cloud is VMware's next-generation desktop as a service. This cloud-managed service can be flexibly paired with on-premises infrastructure (IBM SoftLayer) or certified hyper-converged infrastructure from partners including Dell/EMC, QCT and HDS. With Horizon Cloud, VMware has added JMP capabilities into the service to streamline desktop management and BEAT to enable great user experience across high latency/high packet loss network conditions. VMware is also simplifying how customers can get started.
With Horizon Cloud, customers can now can buy a single license for as little as $16/user or $26/concurrent connection (infrastructure not included). | | | | Want to learn more about these announcements?
