[Action Required] Important notice for Python 2.5 app owners on Google App Engine

Applications that use Python 2.5 will be shut down; please migrate it to Python 2.7 immediately.
Google Cloud Platform
MY CONSOLE

Dear Google App Engine Customer,

You are receiving this email because you are listed as an owner of a Google App Engine application(s) that uses the deprecated Python 2.5 environment, which will soon be shut down.

When we launched App Engine in 2008, Python 2.5 was the only available environment. Since then, we have deployed a Python 2.7 runtime alongside other languages such as PHP and Java. Our Python 2.7 runtime has many features that scalable network applications need, including: multithreading, concurrent requests, and updated versions of core libraries. You can learn here the differences between our Python 2.5 and Python 2.7 environments.

The Python 2.7 runtime saw wide adoption since launch, and on March 8, 2013 we announced the deprecation of Python 2.5. After more than three years, most users have moved on to the newer version, and we are now ready to shut down the Python 2.5 environment.

Below is the list of applications that you are an owner of that are running on Python 2.5:

If the Python 2.5 version(s) of your applications are not necessary, please delete them with appcfg.py or through the Cloud Developers Console. If you no longer need the data stored by these applications, you can delete the data yourself.

However, if you do need any of these Python 2.5 applications we encourage you to use this grace period to migrate them to Python 2.7 immediately. If you have lost the original source code to the application, you can download it from App Engine with appcfg.py. The App Engine specific part of these changes is covered in the Migrating to Python 2.7 documentation.

On May 16th, 2017, the Python 2.5 runtime will be disabled on App Engine. Users who have not completed the migration can re-enable Python 2.5 versions through Cloud Developers Console.

From May 23rd, 2017 to June 13th, 2017, apps re-enabled will be turned down again every Tuesday. Users who have not completed the migration can re-enable Python 2.5 versions through Cloud Developers Console.

On June 20, 2017, the Python 2.5 runtime will be permanently disabled on App Engine. This means that Python 2.5 applications will stop servicing requests, but any stored data they created will still exist and be accessible to other versions of the application you deploy. If you no longer need data stored by these applications, you can delete it yourself.

For more information please visit: Python 2.5 Support Turndown.

If you have any questions or concerns about the decommission, please do not hesitate to contact Google Cloud Support or your Account Manager.
